Minister of Health Hon. Dr Stephen Modise received 944 mosquito nets from the Minister for State President Hon. Moeti Mohwasa, yesterday in Gaborone, as part of Government efforts to help districts currently facing increasing cases of Malaria. Malaria is caused by mosquitos. The recent heavy rains and floods created more breeding grounds for mosquitoes in different areas across the country.

These districts include Okavango, North West, Boteti, Tutume, Bobirwa, Chobe, Palapye, Ghanzi and Tutume, amongst others.

As a result, more cases are being detected across the country. Unfortunately, six (6) deaths have already been reported.

Minister Dr Modise has encouraged the nation to protect themselves against Malaria by using mosquito nets, removing breeding grounds for mosquitoes like grassy areas around their yards and water that has remained stagnant near or at people’s houses, including in tins and buckets.
