Botswana : The Ministry of Health hosted an event in Mochudi main Kgotla

The Ministry of Health in partnership with Women in Global Health Botswana hosted an event in Mochudi main Kgotla yesterday. This event was a build up towards the Science Week which is being officially opened today. The theme for science week this year is “an inquiring mind: a gateway to creativity and innovation.”

The Ministry of Health used their already existing platform of MoH Discussions to create an intimate dialogue between health care professionals (both private and public) and students from 6 schools in Mochudi.

These health care professionals were especially selected to showcase that there is more to health professions than doctors and nurses. Examples of health professions there were occupational therapists, Biomedical engineer audiologist, pharmacists, radiographer, orthotics and prosthetics.

There was also a specialised doctor to also showcase that for nursing and doctors, there is also more to them that the generalists that we know such as ophthalmologist, ophthalmology nurse, neonotologists, neonotology nurse etc.

This was to showcase health as part of STEM, recognizing that health cuts across all scientific fields and also sparking interest in health as a potential employer for professional degrees in health.
