GOVERNMENT, through the Ministry of Health has heightened Cholera containment efforts in Kasumbalesa of Chililabombwe District in the Copperbelt Province.
Health Minister Elijah Muchima, led a multisectoral team to Chililabombwe and Kasumbalesa in particular, to have first hand insight into the efforts to contain the outbreak that has so far claimed seven people.
The Minister has since directed that shallow wells which are contaminated be buried immediately, as the government is working with cooperating partners to provide safe drinking water to the area.
Dr Muchima has hailed the health workers managing the Cholera Treatment Centre, established by the Ministry of Health with support from UNICEF.
Meanwhile, several partners have moved in to support the efforts with the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit providing disinfectants, water tanks and diapers for children. In addition, another community group has drilled a borehole at the Cholera Treatment Centre.
The Minister was joined by the Mayor or Chililabombwe, District Commissioner, Provincial Health Director, Heads of government departments and partners.
