Approximately 2.2 million people<\/strong> in the Central African Republic (CAR)<\/strong>\u2014or one in three<\/strong>\u2014are currently experiencing \u201chigh levels of acute food insecurity,\u201d<\/strong> United Nations humanitarian agencies reported on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Among them, nearly 1.7 million people (27% of the population)<\/strong> are classified as being in Crisis level (IPC Phase 3)<\/strong>, while more than 480,000 people (7%)<\/strong> are in Emergency level food insecurity (IPC Phase 4).<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to the latest Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC)<\/strong> survey for the period April to August 2025<\/strong>, the number of people in Phase 3 (Crisis)<\/strong> has decreased slightly by around 76,000 people<\/strong> compared to the same period last year.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the population in Phase 4 (Emergency)<\/strong> has increased slightly<\/strong>, rising from 430,000 to 480,000 people<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Insecurity, Low Agricultural Production, and Economic Shocks<\/h3>\n

Despite this slight improvement in food security, 80 out of 85 zones<\/strong> analyzed are still classified as Crisis level (IPC Phase 3)<\/strong>. This highlights a still worrying situation, mainly due to irregular rainfall<\/strong>, insecurity during the farming season<\/strong>, limited access to seeds<\/strong>, crop infestations<\/strong>, and rising prices of staple foods<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The report also highlights the impact of conflicts in Sudan and South Sudan<\/strong>, which have caused significant population displacements. According to UN humanitarian agencies, over 440,000 people<\/strong> remain displaced<\/strong>, with limited access to livelihoods<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Beyond conflict and insecurity, low agricultural production<\/strong> and economic shocks<\/strong> continue to worsen the food situation. Agricultural yields remain weak due to insecurity and erratic rainfall in several areas.<\/p>\n

Improvement Expected from September<\/h3>\n

According to the findings of the 2024 agro-pastoral season assessment<\/strong>, yields are declining due to limited access to inputs<\/strong>. In addition, the prices of staple foods remain high<\/strong>, while purchasing power is weak<\/strong>. Fuel prices are the highest in the region<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Looking ahead to the projected analysis period (September 2025 to March 2026)<\/strong>, food security conditions are expected to improve<\/strong>, with about 1.83 million people (28% of the analyzed population)<\/strong> projected to be in IPC Phase 3 or above<\/strong> (down from 34% in the current period).<\/p>\n

This includes 287,000 people in Phase 4<\/strong> and 1.54 million in Phase 3<\/strong>. The outlook is based on forecasts of adequate rainfall<\/strong>, expected to have a positive impact<\/strong> on food crop and livestock production.<\/p>\n
