Depuis 2008, le 19 juin de chaque ann\u00e9e est consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme la Journ\u00e9e mondiale de lutte contre la dr\u00e9panocytose, une des maladies g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques les plus fr\u00e9quentes au monde.<\/p>\n

\u00c0 ce jour, on d\u00e9nombre 120 millions de personnes atteintes de dr\u00e9panocytose dans le monde. Par ailleurs, l’Afrique est le continent o\u00f9 l’on trouve le plus de dr\u00e9panocytaires, avec un nombre estim\u00e9 \u00e0 79 millions.<\/p>\n

La dr\u00e9panocytose, incurable jusqu’alors, alt\u00e8re consid\u00e9rablement la qualit\u00e9 de vie et r\u00e9duit l’esp\u00e9rance de vie des personnes qui en souffrent. En effet, une personne dr\u00e9panocytaire est le plus souvent sujette \u00e0 diverses maladies et souffre de fa\u00e7on r\u00e9currente de crises douloureuses.<\/p>\n

En raison de cet impact n\u00e9gatif sur un grand nombre de personnes, la dr\u00e9panocytose est consid\u00e9r\u00e9e par l’OMS comme la quatri\u00e8me priorit\u00e9 de sant\u00e9 publique dans le monde et, chaque 19 juin est une occasion pour rappeler \u00e0 tous l’int\u00e9r\u00eat de se faire d\u00e9pister \u00e0 temps.<\/p>\n

En effet, un d\u00e9pistage pr\u00e9coce permet de d\u00e9couvrir la maladie avant que les sympt\u00f4mes n’apparaissent et favorise un suivi m\u00e9dical plus rapide afin de diminuer la gravit\u00e9 ou la fr\u00e9quence des complications. De plus, le d\u00e9pistage permet d’\u00e9valuer son risque de pouvoir ou non transmettre la dr\u00e9panocytose.<\/p>\n
